ArchCity Defenders Hosts Next Event in its #ACDLive Virtual Series: “The Crisis in St. Louis Jails”

Context: Jail should not be a death sentence, yet for many people detained pretrial in St. Louis City jails, it feels just like it. In early February, ArchCity Defenders announced its upcoming webinar, “The Crisis In St. Louis Jails,” as part of a new and ongoing series of virtual conversations intended to raise awareness about pressing issues facing clients and their families.
This past weekend, another uprising at the “City Justice Center” placed issues with the jails back into the media spotlight.
Speakers during this webinar will provide: context to understand the uprisings, updates on how ACD is working to address the crises, and detailed testimony on the conditions of local jails.
ACD staff will cover a range of topics: relevant and pending litigation that is challenging money bail as well as inhumane conditions at the Workhouse, the latest news on efforts to Close the Workhouse, and a brief history of people who have previously died in the jails. The remaining half of the event will center stories from people who have been incarcerated in CJC and the Workhouse, and loved ones of detainees. The event will conclude with a question and answer period.
