WHY: Organized by EXPO-STL and MCU, speakers at today’s rally will offer context about what led up to the CJC protests and discuss the issues faced by people in contact with the criminal court systems, jails and prisons. Speakers will share ways the community can connect to ongoing work to build power with individuals and families impacted by the criminal legal system. Examples of this include getting involved with Unlock the Vote, Break the Pipeline, Participatory Defense, and the Close the Workhouse campaign. Speakers will also present demands to the media, community, and city departments to bring about accountability for long overlooked problems with St. Louis City jails, especially CJC.
