Originally from Liberty and Greenville, Mississippi, Emanuel joined ArchCity Defenders in September 2020 as a Skadden Fellow and Staff Attorney. In this role, Emanuel’s work focuses on providing legal support to the families of people killed by police or who died while in state custody.
As a law student inspired by ACD’s holistic legal advocacy model, Emanuel first worked at ACD as a legal intern in the summers of 2017 and 2018. Prior to law school, he worked as a strategy and design consultant, helping nonprofits and philanthropists design projects and investments focused on addressing inequities in education, public health, economic development and in addressing anti-Black racism.
I grew up singing in my church choir and served as the president of my university gospel choir.
