Justice should never be based on how much money you can pay, but cities all across America overpolice low income communities of color and make a profit from these illegal practices that have no place in our society.
ArchCity Defenders continues to work to end unconstitutional practices and call national attention to them.
Three things you need to know:
- ArchCity Defenders filed one of the largest class action lawsuits against 13 municipalities in for running a debtors’ prison scheme.
- ArchCity Defenders collaborated with VICE on the documentary, “Debtors’ Prisons: Life Inside America’s For-Profit Justice System” featuring our clients and attorneys.
- Last week, the U.S. Justice Department followed up on this work and said that holding people in jail because they can’t afford to make bail is unconstitutional— a reminder that everyone has equal protection under law.
Please make a donation now to support our work. We need your financial help now to end the practice of locking human beings in a cage because of their poverty.
