Death by the State: Introducing ArchCity’s Fatal State Violence Project
Jan 18, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
“How long will justice be crucified and truth buried, how long? We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality.” — Martin Luther King, Jr. (1962)
Nearly 60 years later, we find ourselves asking the same question.
In the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr., and ArchCity Defenders’ commitment to speaking truth to power, we invite you to the launch of our Fatal State Violence project, an initiative that is rooted in the experiences of impacted families who have lost a loved one to a police killing or in-custody jail death, and the disturbing realities that follow. During this virtual event, ACD will talk about the project and review the key findings in the policy report, “Death by the State: The State of Fatal State Violence in St. Louis,” which will be released on January 18th. Register and tune-in to hear about the realities of FSV on impacted families, data regarding people killed by police and people who died in jail custody from 2009-2019, an analysis of news media reporting of these incidents, and data on police who reportedly killed people. ACD will conclude the programming with the cost of policing and state violence, and with concrete ways event participants can engage and support this project.
