ACD Hosts Upcoming CLEs: Pro Bono Representation (Housing)
Apr 7, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
For the past year, courts closed and/or slowed evictions and they’ve backed up. Families owe more in back rent than ever before and the federal assistance programs are not fast enough and do not provide enough support to prevent the oncoming wave of evictions. Landlords will soon be able to request sheriffs to execute evictions and we anticipate that the number of eviction lawsuit filings will increase exponentially too. Providing tenants with legal representation is more important than ever before.
“Tenants with representation were forcibly displaced from their homes in just 5 percent of cases, compared with a staggering 78 percent of unrepresented tenants. Represented tenants were also twice as likely as unrepresented tenants to receive a favorable judgment.” – Center for American Progress
In April, we are hosting a free, introductory CLE to prepare lawyers to provide pro bono representation to tenants through ACD’s volunteer lawyer program. CLE credit has been approved by the Missouri Bar for 2.4 hours (0.5 ethics).
Note: we will be providing the SAME CLE on three different dates to try to make it more accessible. You will select your session on the registration page.
